Blog Tour: World of Ash by Shauna Granger

World of Ash
Release Date: 12/02/13

Summary from Goodreads:
There are two inherent truths in the world: life as we know it is over, and monsters are real.

The Pestas came in the night, spreading their pox, a deadly plague that decimated the population. Kat, one of the unlucky few who survived, is determined to get to her last living relative and find shelter from the pox that continues to devastate the world. When it mutates and becomes airborne, Kat is desperate to avoid people because staying alone might be her only chance to stay alive.

That is, until she meets Dylan. Dylan, with his easy smile and dark, curly hair, has nowhere to go and no one to live for. He convinces Kat there can be safety in numbers, that they can watch out for each other. So the unlikely couple set off together through the barren wasteland to find a new life – if they can survive the roaming Pestas, bands of wild, gun-toting children, and piles of burning, pox-ridden bodies.

 Review:
“I pray there’s a happy ending in my future.”

World of Ash is a realistically, scary novel about what it means to be your own hero in a messed up world. Stakes are high as we follow Kat through this crazy adventure as she fights for survival.

Kat has lost both her mom and dad to the disease that was spread from monsters, also known as Pestas. Now she is a young girl trying to survive in the big bad world all alone. That is until she meets Dylan. Dylan also has his fair share of losing people to the same disease that took Kat’s parents. Together their survival is risky, yet essential.

“We leave our mini-paradise, the second time in as many days I’ve given up a small utopia in this nightmare world.”

World of Ash intrigued me and made me think. What would I do if all our resources became limited? What would happen if the world as we knew was no more? It scared me to think about because honestly, I would not survive. It’s the sad, honest truth. But survival out in the wilderness would not be my forte. I admit that it shames me to have to admit that.

I’m much like Kat was before the world went to shits. Well, not so much materialistic as her, but I do enjoy my phone, and hot showers, as well as getting my hair done. But Kat did what she had to do to survive, and that meant doing things she never dreamed to would end up having to do. All she wants to do is make it to Seattle, where her uncle is staying.

The story itself dragged in some places. It was especially boring in the beginning, where it felt like nothing happened for a long time. But as I read on, the more interest I gained.

I look forward to reading more of Kat and Dylan’s story. At this time, I’m not sure if there is a second book or not but I sure hope so because I feel like there should have been more to the story then where it ended at.

3.5 stars
