Tomi Adeyemi conjures a stunning world of dark magic and danger in her West African-inspired fantasy debut, perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo and Sabaa Tahir.

Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zelie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.

But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were targeted and killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.

Now, Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.

Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers—and her growing feelings for the enemy.

Review:
WOW. There are moments when no words can possibly describe what I’m currently feeling right now. I want to scream at the top of my lungs how I think you should pick up this book and read it. If there’s any book out there that I think you should read, it’s this one. Zélie is a character that rivals all the best out there; Hermione, Katniss, etc.

A fantasy world set in West Africa. This is something I hadn’t yet come upon in the YA world and I loved its originality and the imagination that went into this gorgeous book. I knew as soon as I was contacted to review the audio book, that it was a story that I couldn’t pass up. Bahni Turpin—who narrates books such as The Hate You Give and The Help, to name a few—delivers in such a profound way, that I felt as if I was in the story. She set the tone perfectly. She brought that book to life.

If you like action, romance, and stories that will completely take you away, this is the absolute best book to get all of that and more. You can’t forget the magic that graces itself with its presence. Then there’s the characters who are utterly amazing; and to watch them grow was a treat! I love multidimensional characters that you’re able to relate to in one way or another.

I know for a fact that Children of Blood and Bone is the next best thing. The hype surrounded by it is warranted and true. THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING!!! I can’t even. I want to go back and listen to it all over again. BUY THIS BOOK AND PREPARED TO BE WOWED!
