The power might be out…but the heat is on.

Every year, free-spirited Frankie Sylva banishes her holiday loneliness with good deeds. This time, she’s rescuing a truckload of neglected reindeer—until a blizzard sidetracks her scheme, and now she’s stuck…literally.

Local sheriff Red LeClair is shocked to find a very cute, half-frozen woman trespassing on Three River Ranch in a ditched rig, with a suspiciously empty trailer. Is she a horse thief? Is she on the run? Is she out of her mind? He has no choice but to take her back to the ranch and keep an eye on her.

But when the power goes out, Red and Frankie are forced to depend on each other in a way that both have avoided for years. The sheriff’s quiet holiday is suddenly festive: a crackling fire, candles, carols, and an irresistible stranger…who might be a felon.

Author Bio –
My name is Liam; I am an author from Manchester, UK. I love three things in this world, writing, reading and the viral video of the Irish family trying to catch a bat. (My girlfriend, family, friends and cats may be unhappy with this).
My hobbies include listening to podcasts, watching grown men fight and trying every possible type of ground coffee in the world.

Here are my Top Ten reasons to read my book or spend the night with me…
1. It won’t cost you much.
2. It will be over relatively quickly.
3. I will be very grateful.
4. You can tell other people about it if you enjoyed it.
5. If not, don’t bother.
6. It’s always fun to have something in your hands to flick through.
7. You can review it online.
8. It will leave a mark on you.
9. You won’t want to put it down.
10. It’ll make you laugh.

Author Spotlight- Liam Hurley
I am a writer; as such I am writing about myself today. This is my ‘author spotlight’ for The Lovely Books. Unlike most authors I am drawn to the spotlight. Writers are generally supposed to be shy and retiring. Escaping into a world of their own amongst their characters. But I am much more of an extrovert. The spotlight may as well be a flame and I a moth.
Writing, however, is where I find the most comfort. I get myself in a comfortable place, with a ready supply of coffee, and start to hit the keyboard with vigour. After about thirty minutes I find myself lost; a good few hours can just whirl past.
I like to write about the real world. As much as I love books about dragons, magic and bollocks, I like to find stories amongst reality. Each one of us is the product of millions of years of evolution, as well as the winner of a hundred-million deep sperm race. Because of these reasons we are extraordinary beings, living in an ordinary world. And that, is where I look for stories; Extraordinary people in ordinary setting

Writing has always been a passion, a dream really. Isn’t it odd how it takes us so long to do things we always wanted to do? You wait for years to do something and then when you eventually do it all you can think is, why did I not do this earlier?! Jesus! This has happened a lot to me over the past few years. I’ve done things then wanted to shout at myself for not doing them before. But I guess that’s part of growing.

For the last six months I have been working on You, Me and Us. My debut novel. I am very grateful to the numerous people who have helped me along the way and those of you who have taken the plunge on an unknown debutant author. It has been a labour of love. I have worked hard on it of course but it has been enjoyable. I’m doing my dream job so I can’t complain, can I? It’d an odd feeling to hold your own book in your hands. Six months of hard work boiled down to 303 pages. It’s a surreal feeling. I find myself sometimes just holding the book in my hands, passing it back and forth like it has some greater symbolic meaning. Essentially though it is a knock-about romantic comedy. A fun light read which would hopefully brighten a few days off work for someone.
As I said to begin with, I am a writer. Simple as that. So, I’ll do me, and you do you. And together we’ll find out much more about this extra, yet ordinary, world we live in.

Blog Tour Review — The Brightest Embers (Broken Destiny, #3) by Jeanine Frost

Title: The Brightest Embers
Author: Jeaniene Frost
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Harlequin
Hosted by: Lady Amber’s PR

Blurb:
You can run from your destiny, but you can't hide…
Ivy thought that she and Adrian had conquered their fates. Yet with thousands of innocents still trapped in the demon realms, she's determined to locate the final hallowed weapon and harness its unparalleled power to free them. But the last relic nearly put Ivy in the grave—there's probably no coming back from this one.
Adrian's dark lineage has made him the most powerful of his kind, yet even his incredible abilities might not be enough now. Instead, the treacherous fate he has fought so hard to escape might be the only way he can save Ivy. Their scintillating bond has been tested before, but never with so much on the line. Now fate will come head-to-head against true love, and nothing they've endured can prepare Ivy and Adrian for the unthinkable choices they'll face…
Don't miss the earth-shattering conclusion to New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost's Broken Destiny series.

Review:
After the second book, I didn’t know if I could continue with the last one due to the novel having that second book syndrome. You know what I’m talking about. But I’m glad I decided to continue on.

The third and final story for Ivy and Adrian has come to an a satisfying end. Much like the first two books in the trilogy —the duo must find the hallowed item that will ultimately defeat Adrian’s father, Demetrius, and save mankind. There’s a bunch of shenanigans and action-packed plot that pulled me in completely.

Ivy was, at times a hard character to love — at least in my eyes. Some of the decisions she made were idiotic but I eventually realized that maybe it wasn’t a flaw at all. Maybe, it was just part of her charm. I’m not one hundred percent sure I’ll ever be #TeamIvy but Adrian more than makes up for everything. He’s so damn awesome.

Overall, the trilogy as a whole is good. Frost’s storytelling has always been one of my favorites. It’s both engaging and intriguing to say the least. I know for a fact that any time I see a book of hers come out, I have to it. I may not read all her books right away but it doesn’t stop me from putting Frost on auto-buy. Readers, if you’re looking from something new to read, with a different yet interesting plot, this if for you!

Tessa covered her stack of crêpes with a kitchen towel then waved. “Hey. Looking for something?”

He turned towards her, hand still on his neck. His eyes hit her face.

They were wary, almost hesitant. But oh, so blue. Not deep and dark, but bright and icy. And watchful.

“Yes.” His voice came out scratchy. Unused.

“Okay…” She scanned the kitchen, checking to see if there was anything out of place. Or something that looked like it belonged to him.

Tessa was about to ask what he was looking for when he saw something behind her. He came forward and, without thought, she stepped out of his way. “Did you find what—” Tessa turned and stopped. She watched in horror as he stuck one long finger into the bowl of whipped cream.

Her cream. For her cake.

“Excuse me!” She yanked the bowl away and hugged it to her chest. And told herself not to stare when he casually pushed that finger into his mouth and sucked it clean, his eyes narrowing as he watched her hands flex.

“Give it back.”

Tessa turned, shielding it from him. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

Those black brows dropped, the line between them deepening. “Eating.”

“Not this, you’re not.” Tessa swallowed back a crazy laugh. This guy was nuts. Coming into her kitchen, taking her food. Sucking on his finger while looking at her like that.

With his attention on the whipped cream, the intruder took one step forward. Just one. And it practically had Tessa pinned to the counter. Her head fell almost all the way back as she watched, astonished, as he reached around her and dipped his finger—the same finger—back in, scooping up a huge dollop.

Tessa closed her eyes on a gasp. What the…!? She couldn’t believe he’d done it again. And she definitely couldn’t watch him lick it off.

“Stop,” she squeaked. Tessa glared at the black-haired giant and summoned all of the command she was used to wielding in a kitchen.

“That’s enough. You need to leave.” She looked pointedly at the door.

He didn’t pay any attention. Instead, he retrieved a drop of cream from the corner of his mouth with his tongue and propped his hip against the opposite counter. “You really should share.” He wasn’t looking at the bowl anymore. Those hypnotic eyes were on her.

Tessa wasn’t getting into a staring contest. Not with him, not on her first day. Not in her kitchen.

“You really should ask permission before taking things that don’t belong to you.”

“So I’ve been told,” he said, shoving both fists into the pockets of his dark jeans.

About Katy Ames:

Katy Ames has spent most of her life on the East Coast and hopes to spend more of it in the UK. In part, so she can indulge in her serious plaid obsession. There isn’t a teenage drama on the CW or a period British TV show she hasn’t binge-watched at least twice. And she can be persuaded to do most things with the promise of bourbon, coffee, chocolate, or a nap, not necessarily in that order. Katy is mom to a small human who has an obscene amount of energy and a blissful ability to ignore swear words, and wife to a man whose reading habits are far too serious. Katy and her family reside in Washington, D.C., a city she where never planned to live and loves so much she’d be happy to talk about for hours. Just ask.

Katy writes contemporary romances that feature heroes who are strong but not so silent, heroines who aren’t afraid to kick ass, and stories that get a little messy before they end happily ever after.

Blog Tour Review - Can’t Get Enough by Gena Showalter

From New York Times Bestselling author Gena Showalter, comes the next standalone romance in the Original Heartbreakers Series—CAN’T GET ENOUGH!

Grab your copy today!

CAN’T GET ENOUGH Synopsis:

New York Times best selling author Gena Showalter returns with a sizzling Original Heartbreakers tale, featuring a rough, tough bad boy brought to his knees by... a kindergarten teacher? The king of one-night stands... To inherit--and destroy--his father’s business at long last, Brock Hudson needs a temporary wife. The ruthless ex-military heartthrob has always avoided romantic entanglements. Women are sweet, but vengeance will be sweeter. Or so he thinks. Only one woman will do, but the vulnerable beauty is more than he bargained for—sexier, wittier, and utterly irresistible.

The queen of the deep freeze… After an abusive first marriage, Lyndie Scott has sworn off relationships. But still she longs for a child of her own. Turns out, the brawler who used to frighten her with only a glance is the answer to her problems. She agrees to his proposal, with a caveat: spend every night in bed with her, then walk away for good when it’s time to divorce. Even if she’s pregnant.

A marriage of breathtaking inconvenience... As the days pass too quickly and the nights heat up, Brock battles a sense of possession and obsession. Will the former commitment-phobe convince his wife they’re better off together, or will she pack her bags and go?

Review

I’ve been waiting on this book since I first learned of both Brock and Lyndie. Lyndie is the shy one, who doesn’t trust men due to being abused most of her life. By the hand of her father and her husband. Men like Brock scare her but Brock has a gentleness to him that Lyndie can feel and see. He would never hurt her.

While Brock would never hurt Lyndie, he does have a darkness in him that stems from childhood. Not only that, but he has PTSD from being in military. All that doesn’t ever stop him from treating Lyndie with all the respect and love she deserves.

The best part about the book for me was the marriage of convenience trope. I can’t help it, that’s one of my favorites. Another trope I love is when the heroine is looking for a donor. A sperm donor that is. Lyndie doesn’t feel complete without a baby in her arms. Brock never wanted kids or a relationship; so while he’s getting married for convenience, he doesn’t want it to last.

Will the two be able to get what they want without falling in love? I for one can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this story. Lyndie and Brock are perfect for each other in every way that counts. The appearances of the other characters made me so giddy. I love them. Overall, while this can technically can be read as a standalone, I absolutely recommend reading all the other books first! Starting with the very first one, The Closer You Come, where it all started.

Unadventurous Lissy McIntyre believes choosing the right man should be based on common sense. She would never pick a rolling stone like Nick Richards for long-term love. But a red-hot, tropical romance? Yes, please. He's got a swoon-worthy body and his kisses leave her senseless. A tropical holiday romance might be what she needs…

When Nick moves to his new job in a small country town, he's stunned to discover that his no-nonsense neighbor and co-worker is the beautiful woman he spent a memorable night with on a tropical island. He's unaccustomed to staying in one place for long, but he just can't seem to stay away from the intriguing woman. Nick doesn't do forever but having Lissy around has him thinking maybe he could...

Holiday Affair by Annie Seaton Excerpt

She put her tea on the windowsill and looked outside for a long moment. The sun was dropping behind the trees and the late afternoon sunlight darkened the room, making it difficult to see his expression.

“Why…why? I came to you last Saturday and you threw my feelings back in my face.”

“I was ashamed of my behavior all week. I was scared you would take it as a commitment if I responded to you.”

“Did I ask you for commitment?” she asked, her voice frosty. “Me. This is me. Remember, I don’t do commitment, Nick. You know how I feel about that. I don’t believe in the sort of physical attraction we seem to have for each other ending up in any long lasting relationship.”

“I know,” he replied. “But I didn’t trust you. I thought I could avoid hurting you, but I think I did the opposite.”

He watched as she wrapped her arms around her chest and appeared to go into self-preservation mode.

“Not at all. I barely gave you a thought. I was busy all week with the research. It’s not long till we go the Cook Islands and I have a heap of writing up to do. I will admit I was a little embarrassed about my behavior at the restaurant, so I kept a bit of a low profile at the university.”

He knew she was not being honest with him and it amazed him how well he could read her, but he didn’t want to push his luck and upset her even more. She turned away from him and looked out the window, her arms still crossed in front of her. There was also no way he was going to let her know that all he wanted to do was come over and hold her. Not sex, just comfort.

I sat outside on the old tire swing, lost in thought until late in the night, determined to see them come home. At nearly two my eyes were drooping from boredom. I was just about to go inside when I saw headlights crest over the hill at the top of our street. My stomach wobbled and I held the tire tighter. I’d probably be covered in dirt and black marks, but I didn’t care.
I didn’t recognize the sporty coup that pulled up or the girl in the driver’s seat. I stayed very still until I realized it was Tater in the front with her, and Rylen in the back. Rylen got out and Tater proceeded to swallow the girl’s face. Actually, I couldn’t really tell, but that’s what it looked like from far away. Rylen came straight toward me.
“Saw you when we pulled up,” he said, leaning against the tree. I could smell beer on him. “What are you doing out here in the dark all by yourself?”
“Waiting for you,” I said. The words sent a tremor of nerves through me like roller skates on rough pavement.
A sly grin pulled the side of his mouth upward and he shoved his hands in his pockets. “We’re big boys. You don’t need to wait up for us.”
“Maybe I just wanted to see you again.”
He cocked his head at me, as if trying to study my face in the dark.
The door of the car closed and tires crunched in the driveway as the girl reversed. Tater came loping over and I gritted my teeth in irritation.
“What are you still doing up?” he slurred. “Dontcha got school ‘omorrow?”
“It’s summer, duh,” I said. “And you’re trashed. You should go drink some water and go to bed.”
Imma eat everything in the fridge first,” Tater said with a big smile. He patted both of my cheeks and squeezed them in his fingers, pinching me. I could smell hard liquor on his breath. “Aw, my wittle sissy.”
“Stop it.” I pulled back, laughing at his stupidness. He grabbed the tire and gave me a hard swing, making me squeal as I flew high. And to my joy he walked toward the house, and Rylen stayed.
When I started to slow, Rylen pushed off from the tree and his hot hands touched my back, gently pushing me. I swung like that for five minutes in the silence of night, looking forward to each downward swoop when his hands would touch me to push me upward again. Then he grasped the tire with a jolt to stop it, and spun it so that I was facing him. He stood close. His eyes glistened in the moonlight, slightly unfocused. I wondered how much he’d had to drink.
“It’s weird to see you all grown up,” he said softly.
My stomach did that truffle-shuffle thing as my brain searched for a response and found nothing.
“You know,” he said, “when you were little I used to pretend you were Krystal.” Oh my God…his little sister who he lost. I held my breath as he kept talking. “I used to get mad at my mom for making me take Krystal everywhere I went, like I was her constant babysitter or something. I’d get mad at my mom and take it out on Krystal. I was mean as shit to her.”
“Rylen…” He’d definitely had a lot to drink. He never let himself talk about his past or his feelings. “You were just a boy.”
He shook his head. “Doesn’t matter. And no matter how mean I was, she still stuck to me like a puppy. Loyal.”
I swallowed hard. “I’m sure she knew you loved her.”
He didn’t say anything for a minute, just stared off toward his darkened house. “I just always wanted to do right by you.”
“You have,” I whispered. But I’m not your sister, I wanted to say.
He stepped even closer, enough for us to really see each other’s eyes in the starlight. “There’s so much shit out there in the world. So much fucking evil. There’s times where I’m submersed in it and I start to wonder what the point is—of life—of everything. And then I get a letter from you and it’s like…you’re this beam of light shining from across the world. Like a piece of gold, making me remember the good that’s out there. The things that are worth fighting for.”
He thinks of me like gold? Swallow. Breathe. Do not cry. What do I even say to that?
“If I’m gold, Ry, you’re like…titanium. Stronger than you think.”
My words made him rock back slightly on his heels and he grasped the tire to pull himself forward and study my eyes. When I kept my gaze steadily on his, letting him know I was completely serious, he shook his head in wonder and let out a huff of disbelief. I reached out and touched his chest, gently at first, and then fisting his shirt in my palm, pulling him gently toward me. He stared into my eyes as I urged him closer. He wet his lips and my heart pounded a steady rhythm, chanting finally, finally, finally.

About UNREST (Unknown Trilogy #2):

Being on the run in the desert means food and sanctuary are hard to come by, but Amber Tate and her crew are not about to give up. Not after having so many of the things they love brutally ripped from them by an unknown enemy who sent their world into the apocalypse.

Survival takes precedence, but once safe shelter is found, their guards fall and the emotions they’ve been holding in are finally released. Anger, insecurities...lust. In their tight quarters, Amber, Rylen, Tater, and Remy can't escape it. The past must be faced, and passions run even stronger in the darkest of times.

In the midst of unrest, their worlds are rocked again when they discover the

truth about the war that’s ruined their lives. They thought finding out the enemy's identity would give them the edge; instead it’s revealed terrifying dangers they never thought possible.

 Unrest Review:

‘Unrest’ starts off where ‘Unknown’ ended. The whole book sort of The Host by Stephenie Meyer. The pack trek the backroads on their way to Utah where they find a group that’s basically a resistance group. It’s there that they are all given jobs, shelter, and food. After being on the verge of starvation and grief, Amber and the gang quickly become adapted to life underground.

I will say this, this was so much more romantic than the first book. Ry is probably the most clueless man to ever walk the freaking planet. Besides that, I enjoyed watching the tension grow between Ry and Amber. Unrest delves so much deeper in who is attacking and why. It’s so scary to think about. Wendy brings a new take on alien invasion and to be honest, after we finally learn more about the attacks, I fell a little more in love with the story.

It has my mind racing with so many questions. Most importantly though, how in the world will they win? I need my questions answered. I need more of these group of people who I’ve come to care for. Not just Amber but everyone. Now onto what happens in the next book!

About UNDONE (Unknown Trilogy #3):

Amber Tate never dreamed their heart-wrenching escape from the enemy’s attack would lead them to the most beautiful place she’s ever seen. Like everywhere else in the world, Elmendorf military base in Alaska has been taken over, but it’s time to take it back—all of it—one base, one city at a time. After losing so much, Amber clings to the one precious person she has left, and vows to sacrifice everything to help save the Earth.

Remy Haines is a lover, not a fighter, so when she finds herself in enemy territory, expected to feign allegiance while gathering intel for the rebel cause, she’s never been more out of her element. Tensions only increase when her feelings for Jacob “Tater” Tate won’t go away, and the enemy’s leader takes an interest in her. She’s torn between what her heart wants, and what she knows she should do. As for what her body needs…well, it’s always had a mind of its own.

Undone Review:
After the ending to Unrest, I anxiously dove into the next book. With the way it ended, you can’t help but have your heart in your throat. Terrified. That’s one word that comes to mind when I think of the ending. In Undone, we actually start having the point of view from both Amber and Remy. I thought that was genius. I really love Remy and it was awesome being inside her head.
So Remy, Tater, and Lisette have been taken by the Baelese, the aliens sent to wipe out humanity and make earth their own. It’s there we find out who their leader is and let’s just say, it’s pretty obvious from earlier books who it is. I wasn’t surprised in the least. Remy grew a lot as a character since the first book. She has to play the game in order to beat the Baelese. Even if that involves seducing their leader...maybe.
Amber and Ry are in Alaska at another military base. The two must stop at nothing to get back what was taken from them. This thrilling conclusion with leave you absolutely breathless. The writing is perfection, the characters are better than ever, and the everlasting message of love and hope. My happy tears are streaming down my face. Well done, Wendy!
